The Westside Shed
The Westside Shed is a community-led space designed to support local journeys, shared resources, and climate-friendly living. Rooted in the priorities of the Wester Hailes Local Place Plan, the Hub is a physical expression of residents' vision for a healthier, more connected, and more sustainable neighbourhood.
Situated at the entrance to Westside Plaza, the Shed acts as a welcoming point for community activity, peer learning, and practical services. It brings together projects like the Bike Library, Tool Library, and a growing calendar of events and workshops that promote active travel, sustainable economy, and low-carbon living.
More than just infrastructure, the Shed is about local ownership—developed by and for the people of Wester Hailes. It is part of a wider effort to reclaim public space, reduce inequality, and create long-term community resilience.
Bike library
The Bike Library at The Westside Shed is a practical, community-based project developed through the Wester Hailes Local Place Plan to support active travel, health, and climate action.
Managed directly by Wester Hailes Community Trust, the Bike Library provides free access to a small but growing fleet of bikes for local residents of all ages. Whether for school runs, everyday errands, or weekend rides, the Bike Library helps remove cost barriers and supports a shift toward more sustainable, active transport.
If you have any questions regarding how to borrow a bike or you want to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact our Bike Librarian
